{"id":7621,"date":"2020-06-30T13:15:34","date_gmt":"2020-06-30T13:15:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.digitaldips.pk\/?p=7621"},"modified":"2020-06-30T13:15:41","modified_gmt":"2020-06-30T13:15:41","slug":"uber-rolls-out-enhanced-safety-measures-amid-covid-19-outbreak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.digitaldips.pk\/index.php\/2020\/06\/30\/uber-rolls-out-enhanced-safety-measures-amid-covid-19-outbreak\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber Rolls Out Enhanced Safety Measures Amid Covid-19 Outbreak"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As the government begins to ease off lockdown and\nworkplaces slowly resume operations, Uber Pakistan\u2019s #MoveWithSafety campaign\naims to educate and raise awareness of the additional safety measures it has\nput in, in order to help the app\u2019s users stay safe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uber partner drivers in Pakistan will be asked, as part of a new in-app\nsafety checklist, to verify that they are wearing a mask using their new object\nrecognition technology. Any driver who is not wearing a mask or a face covering\nwill not be able to go online. Drivers\ncan cancel the ride if a rider is not wearing a mask, without incurring a\npenalty. Partner drivers will also be asked to confirm if they have taken\nadditional safety measures, such as regularly sanitising their car and making\nhand sanitizers available for their riders. Riders will also be able to cancel\nrides, without incurring penalties, if drivers aren\u2019t wearing masks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, riders will be asked whether they have\ntaken necessary safety precautions, like washing their hands before getting in\nthe car, sitting in the backseat and opening windows for ventilation. Only two\nriders per car will be allowed, in line with government regulations in Sindh\nand Peshawar, and three riders per car in Punjab and the Federal Capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Globally, Uber is investing $50 million to help\nensure every driver and courier has access to personal protective equipment,\nand cleaning and sanitising supplies needed to work more safely on the Uber\napp. This includes providing masks to drivers across Pakistan and reimbursing\neligible drivers and couriers for the purchase of a sanitizer or disinfectant\nproduct of their choice up to a maximum amount which is defined for each\ncountry. So far, Uber has provided or reimbursed hand sanitisers, cleaning\nsprays and disinfectant wipes to drivers in Pakistan, as well as over 20,000\nmasks. It is also partnering with Unilever to distribute hygiene kits to drivers and couriers across\nEurope, the Middle East, and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Saad N. Pall,<\/strong><strong> General Manager\nat Uber Pakistan said, <\/strong>\u201c<em>At Uber, we put safety at the\nheart of everything we do and we believe technology can make travel safer than\never before.<\/em> <em>Now, as cities begin to\nreopen, we want to ensure that both riders and drivers recognise that they have\na shared responsibility to make travel safer, and enough flexibility to manage\nthis, while prioritising health and safety. Governments as well as the private\nsector across the globe are continually working to assess and adapt a world\npost the COVID-19 pandemic, and we want to use the scale and influence of our\nplatform to proactively complement the government\u2019s efforts to help everyone\nstay safe and healthy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, Uber also announced the launch of\nUber Medics in the UAE and Saudi Arabia as part of its global commitment to\nMove What Matters, providing healthcare workers with discounted trips to and\nfrom their workplaces. Additionally, \u2018Uber By the Hour\u2019 offers riders with an\nhourly ride option, without having to re-request a trip at each location &#8211;\nstrengthening safety, providing additional flexibility for riders and an\nadditional earnings opportunity for drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other safety initiatives announced in light of\nCOVID-19 include:<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>New health and hygiene feedback system: <\/strong>Uber is adding new options\nfor feedback in the app. This includes an option to report if a rider or driver\nis wearing a mask or not. Anyone who is repeatedly flagged for violating the\nnew safety policies risks losing access to Uber\u2019s apps. <\/li><li><strong>Safety education materials: <\/strong>Working with the World Health\nOrganization and the latest public health advice, Uber has compiled safety tips\nand recommendations specifically geared toward ridesharing.
