Syed Babar Ali, the Founding Pro Chancellor of LUMS<\/a> and former President of the World Wildlife Fund, has been elected to this year\u2019s class of the prestigious American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Recognized for his immeasurable contributions to education, advancing the public good and promoting social equity in Pakistan, Mr. Ali has been acknowledged in the category of \u2018Business, Corporate, and Philanthropic Leadership\u2019. He joins an esteemed cohort of over 270 innovators and leaders from across sectors, disciplines, and geographies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1780, the Academy is one of the\nworld\u2019s most respected honorary societies, known for its exceptionally\naccomplished members and celebration of excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBabar Ali is incredibly generous to give his\ntime and advice to so many who come to him. I have not come across anyone so\nenthusiastic to try new initiatives for the betterment of young Pakistanis,\u201d\nsaid LUMS Rector, Mr. Shahid Hussain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Ali is one of 37 International Honorary\nMembers and joins scientists, academics, and artists from 22 countries.  He follows Pakistan\u2019s Nobel Prize-winning\nphysicist, Dr.Abdus Salam who was elected in 1971, once again bringing Pakistan\ninto the international spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSyed Babar Ali is a national treasure who\npersonifies humility, integrity and generosity. His motto is to learn from\nothers and pass on that learning to breed success. He will remain a role model\nfor generations to come,\u201d said LUMS Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Ali\u2019s pioneering efforts in building\nmanagement capacity and an ambitious vision for excellence in higher education\nin Pakistan are well known to have created a lasting impact on our nation. The\nAcademy\u2019s recognition of Mr. Ali is a fitting tribute to his legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
