{"id":7284,"date":"2020-02-12T10:44:38","date_gmt":"2020-02-12T10:44:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.digitaldips.pk\/?p=7284"},"modified":"2020-02-12T10:44:43","modified_gmt":"2020-02-12T10:44:43","slug":"unlocking-the-potential-of-youth-entrepreneurship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.digitaldips.pk\/index.php\/2020\/02\/12\/unlocking-the-potential-of-youth-entrepreneurship\/","title":{"rendered":"Unlocking the Potential of Youth Entrepreneurship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The\nNational Incubation Center (NIC) Lahore hosted a graduation ceremony for 62\nyoung entrepreneurs from disadvantaged urban areas who were trained under the\nthird round of the \u2018Urban Youth Project.\u2019 Shahid Hussain, CEO of Service Sales\nCorporation (Pvt.) Ltd was the keynote speaker for the evening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nUrban Youth Project was launched in 2016 in partnership with the British Asian\nTrust and the Citi Foundation under Citi\u2019s \u2018Pathways to Progress\u2019 initiative,\nto prepare urban youth to thrive in today\u2019s economy. The objective of the\nprogramme is to reduce youth unemployment and increase sustainable economic development\nthrough entrepreneurship and leadership training. To date, nearly 200\nmicroentrepreneurs have been trained under this project and have gone on create\n180 new jobs for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is based on the firm belief that those who possess a skill should be supported to achieve their potential, regardless of their background. Beneficiaries have included youth helping run small family businesses, those trained at vocational institutes run by Technical Education &amp; Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), and students running side businesses to supplement their family income, amongst others. Promoting female entrepreneurship is also a key objective of the project, and 50% of the trainees in the last cohort in Lahore were women microentrepreneurs. Apart from Lahore, NICLahore has delivered this training in Quetta and Karachi in partnership with local business schools in order to build local capacity to build and promote the entrepreneurship ecosystem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shahid Hussain commented, \u201cIt\nis heartening to see so many young people who are at different stages in their\neducational careers but have an entrepreneurial spirit and have sought\nincubation at a place like LUMS for support.\u201d He talked about hisown\nentrepreneurial journey and encouraged the graduates to persevere even in the\nface of failure, which was part of the entrepreneurial journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adeel Shahid, Head of\nMarketing &amp; Public Affairs, Citibank N.A. Pakistan, commenting on how far\nthe programme had come since it first started, said, \u201cAlong with encouraging\nyouth to dream big, we must also equip them with the tools and skillsetneeded\nto achieve their goals. The stories shared by the microentrepreneurs today\nprove that Citibank and its partners, the British Asian Trust and NIC Lahore,\nhave been successful in establishing a roadmap for young entrepreneurs to\nrealise their dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Richard Hawkes, Chief Executive of the British\nAsian Trust,also congratulated the graduatesvia a\nvideo message.
