{"id":6752,"date":"2019-08-21T12:51:52","date_gmt":"2019-08-21T12:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.digitaldips.pk\/?p=6752"},"modified":"2019-08-21T12:55:48","modified_gmt":"2019-08-21T12:55:48","slug":"telenor-pakistans-6th-open-mind-pakistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.digitaldips.pk\/index.php\/2019\/08\/21\/telenor-pakistans-6th-open-mind-pakistan\/","title":{"rendered":"20 Trainees Graduate From Telenor Pakistan\u2019s 6th \u2018Open Mind Pakistan\u2019 Program For PwDs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The 6<sup>th<\/sup> iteration\nof Telenor Pakistan\u2019s \u2018Open Mind Pakistan\u2019 program empowered 20 young,\ndifferently-abled trainees who have graduated this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The graduation\nceremony took place at Telenor Pakistan campus 345. \u2018Open Mind Pakistan\u2019 is a\nvisionary, one-of-a-kind special training program with the objective of\nenhancing employability of \u2018Persons with Disabilities\u2019 (PwDs) through skills\ndevelopment, mentoring and on-job training; and now it has been taken a step\nfurther with the launch of a comprehensive job portal, known as the \u2018Disability\nJob Center\u2019 (DJC).This will provide a one-stop site for adjoining job searchers\n(differently-abled) as well as job posters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018Open Mind\nPakistan\u2019 2019 edition kicked off in January 2019 where 20 candidates were\nshortlisted for the program after fair &amp; impartial testing and screening\nprocesses, specially modified to be accessible for the visual and hearing\nimpaired. To further empower this initiative, Telenor Pakistan, in\ncollaboration with Unilever Pakistan and Special Talented Exchange Program\n(STEP) has designed and launched the all new job portal which solidifies career\nsustainability for PwDs and aid in their job-hunting excursions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The portal is first\nof its kind in Pakistan and the elementary aspect of this initiative enables a\nlarge network of potential employers to post selective jobs for special\ncitizens. Other key features include; job opportunities, information regarding\nrights and services, database of beneficiaries and providers, skills\ndevelopment and training, entrepreneurship, and micro-financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt makes us really\nproud to see how this one-of-a-kind program has now grown into an industry best\npractice for organizations striving to become more diverse, inclusive, and\nopen-minded,\u201d said Irfan Wahab Khan, CEO, Telenor Pakistan and Head of Telenor\nEmerging Asia Cluster, at the graduation ceremony. \u201cThis is one of the many powerful\nways how innovatively Telenor Pakistan is pursuing its mission of empowering\nthe Pakistani society and mainstreaming the marginalized segments of its\npopulation. I congratulate the graduates of the 6<sup>th<\/sup> batch of Open\nMind Pakistan and with the launch of the Disability Job Portal; I look forward to\nsee increased employment opportunities for the differently-abled\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Executive Director,\nSTEP, Mr. Atif Sheikh said, \u201cBy following the example we set today, the\ncorporate sector, through continued collaboration with disabled people\u2019s\norganisations can impactfully contribute towards an inclusive society. These\ninitiatives can be further scaled up through policy making at the government\nlevel.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In continuation of\nOMP, Disability Job Center portal will establish awareness and help the\ndifferently-abled to identify their skills and apply them to benefit the\ncorporate world as well as their own livelihood. This, undoubtedly, will create\na level-playing field for all and aid the professional progression of individuals\nbased on merit, and not on physical abilities\/disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the \u2018Open\nMind Pakistan\u2019 program since 2013, 92 extraordinary individuals have been\ninducted, with three-fourth of them managing to land a job.
