LG\nElectronics (LG) has launched its aggressive Zero Carbon 2030 initiative,\ncommitting to achieving net-zero carbon emissions from its global operations\nwithin 12 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\nline with its larger sustainable business strategy, LG will look to reduce carbon\nemissions from its global operations by 50 percent compared to a 2017 baseline\nby implementing various carbon reduction and renewable energy initiatives. This\neffort will help bring LG closer to reaching its ultimate goal of carbon\nneutrality, achieving a net-zero carbon emissions footprint by balancing carbon\nemissions with carbon removal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through\na variety of strategic initiatives, the company will cut carbon emissions\nacross its global production sites from nearly 2 million tons recorded in 2017 to\n960,000 tons by the end of 2030. LG is looking to expand its high-efficiency\nfacilities and technologies targeting greenhouse gas reduction, alleviating the\ncreation of carbon emissions during the production process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
LG\nwill expand renewable energy installations using solar energy products and\nactively utilize its own business-to-business technology solutions such as\nhigh-efficiency chillers and Energy Management Systems (EMS) to reduce carbon\nemissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally,\nthrough the expansion of its Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects, LG\nplans to secure Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits. Such\nforward-thinking CDM initiatives promote clean development in emerging nations\nby allowing businesses with carbon reduction commitments to implement emissions\nreduction projects in developing countries using their own capital and\ntechnologies. Such projects are critical to earning CER credits, which are\nissued by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC)\nafter a thorough evaluation process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As\nthe first household appliance manufacturer to acquire CER credits in 2015, LG\npaved the way by utilizing highly efficient home appliances and cementing its\nstatus as a pioneering environmentally-conscious company. By the end of 2018,\nLG had secured a total of 340,000 tons of CER through its CDM initiatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
