{"id":6318,"date":"2019-03-22T11:28:02","date_gmt":"2019-03-22T11:28:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.digitaldips.pk\/?p=6318"},"modified":"2019-03-22T11:29:58","modified_gmt":"2019-03-22T11:29:58","slug":"6318","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.digitaldips.pk\/index.php\/2019\/03\/22\/6318\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The\nPresident of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi has said that safe drinking water and\nsanitation are the key priority areas of the \u2018Clean Green Pakistan\u2019 Movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident was the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of Procter &amp; Gamble\n(P&amp;G) Pakistan\u2019s Paak Saaf Pakistan initiative announcement in support of\nPrime Minister\u2019s \u2018Clean Green Pakistan\u2019 Movement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident further said on the occasion, \u201cEnsuring the health of our people\nrequires that we invest in adequate infrastructure to increase access to safe\nand affordable drinking water as well as sanitation facilities. It is also very\nimportant to create awareness about conservation of water, sanitation and good\nhealth and hygiene practices at the grass-root levels. P&amp;G deserves to be\ncommended for making continued efforts to help improve health and hygiene of\nPakistani communities. The reach and impact of its programs to date and\nP&amp;G\u2019s continued commitment towards this cause will continue to make a\nmeaningful difference in the lives of the Pakistani people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P&amp;G\nPakistan has announced commitments for its Paak Saaf Pakistan initiative over\nthe next three years. Under this, it will&nbsp; i) provide 50 million liters of\nclean drinking water, helping an estimated 250,000 people in need via its\nChildren Safe Drinking Water program and ii) create cleanliness and\nhand-washing awareness amongst 5 million children via its Safeguard School\nEducation Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nannouncement was made by Sami Ahmed, Vice President P&amp;G Pakistan, at a\nlocal hotel in Islamabad. Ms.&nbsp; Zartaj Gul, Minister of State for Climate\nChange was the Guest of Honor. P&amp;G was joined by its community partner\nHOPE, represented by Chairperson, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, for the third\nconsecutive year leading up to World Water Day, to raise awareness about the\nclean drinking water crisis and help save lives through the P&amp;G Children\u2019s\nSafe Drinking Water Program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An\nMoU was also signed between the Ministry of Climate Change and Procter &amp;\nGamble Pakistan on this occasion, reiterating P&amp;G\u2019s commitment to play an\nactive role in supporting the \u2018Clean Green Pakistan\u2019 campaign to achieve shared\ngoals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister\nof State for Climate Change, Zartaj Gul shared her views, \u201cOnly together can we\ncreate a strong positive impact. It is deeply encouraging to note that Procter &amp;\nGamble Pakistan has been dedicated to the cause of safe drinking water and\nhealth and hygiene awareness for over a decade and will continue to create\nfurther awareness about this cause. The powerful work undertaken via P&amp;G\u2019s\nChildren Safe Drinking Water and its Health &amp; Hygiene programs, will have a\nlasting impact on our society. I applaud and congratulate the company for its\nefforts and encourage other industry leaders to also play their part.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expressing\nhis views, Sami Ahmed, Vice President, P&amp;G Pakistan said \u201cP&amp;G\u2019s Paak\nSaaf Pakistan umbrella brings together our efforts to help create a healthy and\nhygienic Pakistan through P&amp;G corporate and brand community programs. In\nliving up to our purpose of improving Pakistani lives, our community programs\nto date have improved quality of life for over an estimated 46 million\nPakistanis.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nfurther added, \u201cI am pleased to share that today we celebrate a new milestone\nof delivering 15 billion liters globally through our Children\u2019s Safe Drinking\nWater program fulfilling our global 2020 commitment a year early.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According\nto Water Aid, in Pakistan around 22 million people do not have access to clean\nwater and 19,500 children under 5 years of age die every year from diarrhea\ncaused by dirty water and poor toilets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through\nits non-profit Children\u2019s Safe Drinking Water Program, P&amp;G has made\navailable over 875 million litres of clean drinking water to Pakistani\ncommunities in need to date. This is enough to provide nearly 5.7 million\npeople with clean drinking water for 3 months. This World Water Day, P&amp;G\ncelebrates the achievement of its 2020 global goal of delivering 15 billion\nliters of clean drinking water through its Children\u2019s Safe Drinking Water\nProgram. P&amp;G is now accelerating its efforts to help provide clean drinking\nwater to even more people by delivering 25 billion liters \u2013 more than 100\nbillion glasses of water \u2013 worldwide by 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P&amp;G\nannounced that it would also continue to play an active role in empowering\nchildren across the country to become health and hygiene champions. Safeguard\u2019s\n\u201cHealthy New Year 2019\u201d campaign has educated young children on the importance\npromoting a clean, green country by engaging school children to conduct\ncleanliness drives across 10 major cities of Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since\n1998, Commander Safeguard, Pakistan\u2019s first super hero \u2013 has become an icon for\nchildren and has encouraged them to live a healthy lifestyle. In 2004, P&amp;G\nlaunched the Safeguard School Education Program which has so far reached over\nan estimated 19 million children, creating handwashing awareness across the\ncountry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P&amp;G\u2019s\nefforts in this area support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #\n6 \u2013 to ensure access to water and sanitation for all.
